Hi all, I bought a chopsaw from screwfix yesterday and it has a normal 3 pin 230-240v plug on it because i work on building sites i need to be using 110v can i simply put a 100v plug on it and plug it in to my transformer thus drawing more current to make up for the deficiet in volts or will it not work cheers

It may work, but it is unlikely to work well or safely. Depending on the complexity of the motor and the control electronics, it may not work at all. If it's a crude speed controlled motor, the higher current drawn would cause an overheating risk. You need either a step-up transformer, or better still change the chop-saw for an outdoor-rated professional-grade 110V chop saw. From what I've seen, 110V versions of professional graded tools are the same price as the 240V versions of the same tool. Cheaper, hobby graded tools tends to come in only the 240V versions (in the UK), and don't survive long on building sites.

For others reading this, going the other way, i.e. plugging a 110V device into a 240V supply, will fry the device.

If the site is 110 volt for safety reasons then a 240v ought to be prohibited. The 11 volt is generally centre tapped to earth, so there is only a probably non-lethal 55 volts available for electric shocks

this chop saw was not work due to low input voltage. so you can't pay load to it. you didn't said the power rating of the machine. if power rating is 2000w. then you have to put 3kva 110v to 230v transformer.then it will work properly
