What is the effect on a sound file after applying it Fourier Transform?

I'm sorry, but I don't know about Fourier analysis. Do you know any software in which I can experiment with wav files and functions?

The fourier transform is used for converting time domain wav files (time vs amplitude) to a frequency domain spectrum histogram (freq vs amplitude. This is a spectrum analyser function. The Fast Fourier Transform is so called because it doesn't need floating point and trig functions, but it is an algorithm for a DFT.



However with the PC the computer and its maths co-processor are so fast that arguably it is not important in many cases. The DFT (discrete fourier transform) uses trigonometry but is easier to understand and program. The concept of windowing and sampling rate needs to be understood. The example below has a bit of basic code that shows how. You could be doing this in one day.

Go over to Ebay and search on spectrum analyzer. There is a $29 software that will analyze WAV files and do FFT analysis on your computer screen.

I don't know of any software, but using the fast fourier transform (FFT), you can get the individual notes from a sound file.
