Generally more education gets more money, but I think time is a bigger factor, the more time there the more you earn. Also the type of company and how much you are needed at the company greatly affect pay. If you are indispensable you will make just as much with a bachelor's degree as a phD.

I can only speak for the U.K., where ANY engineering profession is held in low esteem - almost contempt - with appalling conditions and wages to match; qualifications or experience carry small weight. Say "I'm an engineer!" to 99% of the populace in the U.K. and the usual reaction is "Oh! So you get your hands dirty! Yuk! I sit behind a desk all day - a proper job!"

Anyone thinking of taking up "Engineering" as a profession in the U.K. needs their head read. Yes, by all means get a good Univ. degree - but then emigrate pronto - to the USA, Germany or Japan. These countries know how to look after their 'engineers' - and they give them due respect. Why do you think the products from these countries are amongst the best in the world?

I can only speak for the U.K., where any 'engineering profession' is held in very low esteem. Unfortunately, 'engineers' here * are partially responsible for this sad situation themselves, since they do what they do for the love of the job, and not the wages - unlike some ego-driven, paper-shuffling, dictatorial parasitic managers - who don't know which end of a screw-driver to get hold of. When was the last time you saw a product that proudly stated "A quality item, made here in the U.K."? Those days are long gone. * Is this the same situation on the U.S.A.? I sincerely hope not! Your command of technology - and its implementation - is the best in the world - thanks to your superb engineers! .
