Question:
Does this sort of thing miff you? VENTING!?

I'm getting very frustrated. Why? You might ask.
Quite simply the greed and stupidity of tool and equipment manufactures.
I have a small business to run, and as much as that, I need to do a great deal of work at home so that my business can work well. Also, I have a few acres of land that needs plowing, tilling and trees to cut down for my wood stove and fencing. I have things I need to make to make my life less strenuous, too.

Here is my gripe... No matter what tool or piece of equipment I buy, it always seem to wear out after a few months, sometimes weeks, even.
Not too many years ago, one could buy equipment that would last a lifetime, and worth its weight in gold. Now though, one knows that one is wasting ones money, but at least I might just get one job done before the blooming POS falls apart. Buy expensive HSS drills and they bend, refuse to drill even the softest metals! I paid $2500 for a brand new ride on mower. After fifteen minutes the I had a spring break and a snapped belt! The hassle to get the thing repaired under warranty was horrific! Got the thing home, and after two days the same thing happens again! I buy an expensive weed eater. Used for half an hour and the blooming then refuses to start again! Three changes of weed eater later did I got one that actually functioned as it should. My MIG welder lasted three days before it decided to burn out a resistor. The list goes on and on.

Who are these loons who tell their employers that this is the way to go? To make a quick buck, screw the user (customer) and, eventually, have to close down the factory because their sales eventually go down the sink-hole.

SUGGESTION: Everyone write to (e-mail) as many manufacturers as you can, and explain this problem to them, so that they might see their folly, and do right by their costumers'.

Well, you have identified a need in a market.

So why don't you "build a better mousetrap" yourself? I suspect you won't get many sales....

Look, I can't comment on all the items you mention, but I'm glad the HSS drills bent, and didn't snap. If they were indeed high quality, they would only have snapped well down the fluted area, and bent in the area above the flutes (the shank).

That's the way they are hardened! You would not want a drill shank hard, you would never get it to hold in a drill chuck.

So far as not drilling even soft metal, I'd suggest you look at the cutting edges.

If they are blue and severely worn, you are overspeeding, or failing to sharpen them as required, or both.

If they are shattered on the end or cutting lips, you are misusing them.

The fact that you bend them suggests to me, you are misusing them.

I think you must be using these drill bits in a portable appliance. One thing about such things is their design. A "pistol" drill is dreadful, as people tend to use them HOLDING them like a pistol, and then wonder why they break or bend drill bits, or can't get them to cut!

The correct technique with a pistol drill is both hands, one steadying it against rotation and working the trigger, the other applying the pressure directly down in line with the bit. Or, if fitted, it can be both hands pressuring it on the grip and the removable grip placed radially opposite the grip.

I have a drill set that I have used for over 40 years, many in the set are originals. With maintenance (sharpening) and proper use, HSS drills will definitely last a lifetime. They only need to be abandoned when resharpening has made the flutes too short, the overall length is inadequate, or it is so short your cutting edge is in the non- hardened area of the bit (whatever occurs first).

Which makes me wonder how you are using all the other items you mention.....?

In a disintegrating society, standards fall.

It's every man for himself. Fraud and deception become commonplace because of the view that the proponent will probably not be held accountable.

I suggest you import what you need. There are still countries with manufacturing integrity and which value their reputation.
