Question:
Is LTC1799 kit generated square wave suitable for low power HF Transmitter?

There are some kits available online that use LTC1799 chip for generating 1KHz to 33MHz Adjustable Oscillation. The output is square wave. As far as my knowledge goes, AM modulation requires sine wave. My question is, can I use this LTC1799 based kit as oscillator for low power HF transmitter? If yes, do I need to modify anything on the buffer, mixer/ modulation stage?
Thanks.

No, you need a sinusoidal source, plus an AM modulator and a power amplifier.

I know this post I'd ancient but to answer the question correctly, YES you can and I am! A.M. does not need a sine wave it just needs a frequency. In fact using class E you need a square wave drive anyway. Use this device to drive a Fet driver to drive the gate, simple!

You could mess about with a 3rd harmonic suppression filter but it's better to use a function generator chip that outputs a sine wave such as a MAX038 http://datasheets.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/MAX038.pdf
