I have to answer this question on my HVAC test and I don't recall reading about it and I can't find it in the book.

Hz is frequency (cycles per second)

AC is alternating current.

The polarity reverses sixty times per second.

It is turning cycle of an electric generator per second.

f=60 1 /sec = 60 Hertz = 60 sec^(-1)

When we produce an alternative current by a generator it turns around itself.This number of cycle is fixed 60 Hz.

The frequency at the polarity changes(+and -) is 60 cycles / sec.
