What's the differences between Ixx and Ix for moment of inertia?

Ixx is the element of the inertia tensor that corresponds to Ix, I think. I'm pretty sure they're the same thing, but don't quote me on it.

As long as you are talking about the real moment of inertia which actually has something to do with inertia, the mass moment of inertia, they are the same.



Ix is just a lazy notation for Ixx, or a notation where it doesn't matter to consider the entire inertia tensor.



The only reason for doubling up the subscripts is because sometimes the directions are mixed. The mixing of directions determines the product of inertia. Ixy is an example of a product of inertia.
