Im a Junior in HS right now btw.......

Mechanical or Electrical.........pros and cons about each........(Im leaning towards Mech)

One question I have always wondered.........How much does it matter about which engineering school you go to??

Pretty much whats are the opportunities availible to a MIT grad that arent for say a Penn State grad?? Do MIT grads really make that much more money than a Penn State grad?? Job Security better?? I assume they would get "cooler" jobs though......like at NASA or something.......but Im not sure which is why Im asking this question.

I have very good grades and a very high SAT score so I wanted to know how much this actually matters.......(I have recieved letters from MIT and Cal Tech and colleges like that)......oh and I DEFINATELY will get a Masters degree right after I finish undergrad..........I'll get an MBA after some work experience.

Thanks for the help.

And yes I really only want to do engineer.........so dont come here telling me about other professions.......I swear on YA! the only job advice some ppl give is to "become a doctor cuz every doctor is loaded$$$"......lol..............ya so DONT do that.

Selecting one engineering discipline over another is not something others can really advise you on. There really are no pros and cons for one over another. In my experience I have found engineers from various disciplines working in area very diverse from their formal training. As examples: In my company one of the experts in rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines, etc.) was an electrical engineer. Another with a degree in mechanical engineering became a chemical process design expert.

As to which school you attend, some of the "name" schools may get you a bit more money to start and maybe an initial job that is perceived to be "better" but in the long run how well you do will depend on you and your ability. I got my degree from a state university with a fairly low reputation but I was still able to get a job with a major company and had a excellent career with many technical challenges and in the process I made a ton of money. So much so that I was able to retire before I was 60 years of age with no loss of income.

It does matter which engineering school you go to in a number of ways. Certain engineering schools tend to be more theoretical or more devoted to practical application (MIT vs a merchant marine academy, etc.). Certain schools are highly competitive and rely on students self study under guidance rather than "spoon fed" courses (MIT vs NU in Boston, etc.). I was told by an all A engineering student from U Mass (long ago) that he was told by a professor (despite good high school grades) that students at MIT might be 10 time smarter and willing to work 10 times harder (100 times more effective?). Another source (a professor) stated that all A high school students at MIT had a big ego problem getting only Cs. You get out of an education what you put into it. If you have what it takes, go for it, but with your eyes wide open (and with a desired career path in view?). Don't overlook the possibility that with a PhD you could teach engineering (doctor is Latin for teacher). Good luck.

now's a solid time for engineering. quite, any time is a solid time for engineers. rather much each and every business enterprise you pass to that makes some variety of product has an engineering branch. certainly, some products are greater complicated than others. the sector has quite solid job risk-free practices besides with the aid of fact there are constantly some complicated technical problems that must be solved, and engineers are quite the only kinds of people who can do it. As for what container, i could say mechanical or electric engineering. i'm at present a mechanical engineering student, and can say that's probably going considered one of the broadest disciplines of engineering. with the aid of fact it covers a great array of subjects, you will get a job at an excellent variety of distinctive businesses. electric engineering is yet another solid one with the aid of fact maximum applications choose some variety of electric artwork, and it covers an completely distinctive area than any of the different disciplines. in case you want to do artwork for a shape business enterprise, then you definately could like to decide for civil or architectural engineering. astonishing now i could say a grasp's degree isn't well worth it to artwork interior the sector. maximum businesses won't require it till you're getting a extreme profile job. commencing gross revenues with a Bachelor's degree is approximately $50k a year.
