I have just finished a year of an engineering nationa diploma full time and hated it because of the level of maths, i struggled so hard with all of the assignments and needed a huge amount of help to even pass the year. I have just started an apprenticeship in aircraft maintenance and am finishing my engineering course one day a week at college, i enjoy the job. But i hate the college course and my boss wants me to go on to uni to study engineering but i would never cope. Am i in the wrong field of work or is it ok to be an engineer if you struggle with the academic side (maths) so much. Thanks for your time and help, i really need to hear what people think.

Yes. You will need to become fluent in math such that you can think about things that your observing in mathematical terms.

I am currently studying an access diploma in aircraft engineering and plan to go to uni next year to do my degree. There is a lot of maths in this course, it is the main module and I know that you do have to do a lot of maths and physics if you want to study for a degree in engineering. However, if you have started an apprenticeship you should be ok unless your boss is giving you no option!

One of my teachers, who went into the RAF and was an aircraft engineer for many years hates maths! He still managed to become an engineer and now teaching despite the fact he isn't great at it.

My advice to you is if you can work hard and proof you can do the maths then you should definitely try and study, you would have a lot more job opportunities with a degree, otherwise there may be other options but im not sure.

Yes, You need to be good at physics and maths and have a interest in it. As said before you need to take it into your heart. This will motivate you to study better and perform better later on in your career.

Maths, Mechanics and Physics are what you need. Don't become demoralized though. You can buy books and read up upon these sides to engineering and you will enjoy it. Have belief in yourself. I struggled a bit with my diploma in engineering. You will get through the academic side as long as you put in the time and effort!!

lucky you got that job, it is definitely interesting career once you accept it from the heart the every thing comes easy after that feeling. The feeling with our career is must. Half halfheartedly things become harder It is for sure that you will have to be good in math and physics take interest from bottom of your heart. You are too young to understand responsibility but once you decide every thing will come by you just make killing Listen to your seniors/boss etc. they are more experienced than you
