Question 1:
I'm a recent mechanical engineering grad, just got a job, and I just got a EIT certificate. I work for a private company that makes gas station hoses and such. I'm about to get business cards and I want to put this on it:

My Name, EIT
Engineer

Is that legal in Texas? I've found mixed answers. If not, what should I put?

Question 2:
My company does not have any PE's hired. I would like to become one eventually. If I make friends with a PE(who does third party testing for us or something), can he provide the required reference? Can I get a PE who doesn't work with our company at all to reference me?

You are not really allowed to do any engineering design work if your work isn't subject to approval by a PE.

Better check with your State Board of Regulatory Agencies with your questions:

Texas Board of Professional Engineers 1917 S Interstate 35, Austin, TX 78741 Phone: 512-440-7723 Fax: 512-442-1414 info@engineers.texas.gov

One thing you definitely can't do is claim to be a PE or stamp drawings as a PE. The gas station hoses your company makes had to be certified to be safe for their application. You are OK as long as you are not making changes to your companies products or generating drawings for installation of their product. Check out what the state says you can do.

Now that you have your EIT you could also look for a job where they have a PE in the field you want to be certified in.

I hope this helps.

You business card is fine but you cannot be a PE if you are not professionally licensed PE.
