I am trying to make a little device that generates static electricity. It does not have to be an intense amount of static. I want the device to be as compact as possible, say the size of a cell phone.
I have seen the Van De Graaff electrostatic generator but that is much too large and powerful for my purposed.
Any ideas???

Thanks

ps. Please don't state the obvious and tell me to rub a balloon on my head. :)

A small van de graff would be easy and deliver a smaller charge or a leyden jar. Here are some links to my favorite site.

Run a piece of carpet back and forth on a piece of plastic.
